Fans

Modern fans do quiet, year-round work, cooling rooms in summer, moving warm air in winter and clearing moisture from wet areas. This collection brings together every fan a modern Australian home needs.

Types of modern fans for the home

The range includes fans for the most common uses around the home.

  • Modern ceiling fans for everyday cooling in living areas and bedrooms.
  • Exhaust fans for ventilation in bathrooms, laundries and toilets.
  • Fan accessories like extension rods, pitched ceiling kits and dimmable lighting kits to upgrade or add to a fan.

DC and AC modern fans

Most modern fans use a DC motor, which is quieter, uses less power and usually includes a remote with more speed settings than older AC models. If low noise and running cost matter to you, a DC fan is worth the small price premium.

Sizing modern fans to the room

Fan size is measured by blade span. As a guide, smaller rooms such as bedrooms and studies suit fans up to around 1100 to 1200mm, while large living and outdoor areas need 1300mm or more for good airflow. Very large rooms may need two fans for even coverage. A ceiling fan also earns its keep in winter, since most have a reverse mode that pushes warm air back down from the ceiling and helps your heating work more efficiently. Run it one way for a cooling breeze in summer and switch it over when the weather turns.

Installing and caring for your fans

Ceiling and exhaust fans are hardwired and should be installed by a licensed electrician. Once up, a quick wipe of the blades every few weeks keeps them balanced and quiet. A clean, balanced fan runs more quietly and lasts longer. To cool and light a room at once, pair a fan with modern ceiling lights from our home lighting range.
